What is Teeth Whitening?
When your teeth are stained and discolored, you may not feel confident in your smile. If you have been noticing that you’re avoiding smiling, laughing or talking because of the appearance of your teeth, it’s time to consider professional whitening. We offer professional-grade whitening that can lighten your teeth by multiple shades. Whitening is safe, and most results can last for up to one year before re-treatment can be done.
Why is Teeth Whitening needed?
Many different lifestyle and dietary factors can contribute to a dulled and stained smile. If you have tooth decay, other treatments are needed prior to whitening being done. Some of the things that can cause your teeth to discolor include:
- Smoking and smokeless tobacco
- Drinking coffee, tea and soda
- Eating staining foods, like berries
- Certain medications and vitamins
- Certain medical conditions
- Drinking dark-colored wine
- Improper oral hygiene
Who is a candidate for Teeth Whitening?
We will examine your teeth to determine if you might benefit from whitening. If you have restorations, like veneers or crowns, whitening will not change their color. Professional whitening only works on your natural teeth. If you have issues with severe sensitivity or have areas of decay, we’ll recommend different treatments.
What happens during Teeth Whitening?
We first consult with you to determine the whitening option that’s right for you. Our at-home whitening option involves making custom-made trays. We provide you with a commercial-grade whitening gel that is used inside the new whitening trays. You can use these whitening trays time and time again, and simply come in to pick up new gel when it’s needed. Whitening is a great way to improve your smile and feel more confident in the way that you look.
If you think you may want or benefit from whitening, call our office and we can get you in for a convenient consultation appointment.
