What is a Crown?
A crown, or cap, is useful for protecting and covering a damaged or compromised tooth. If a tooth has recently undergone root canal therapy or has broken and cracked, we may suggest having a crown made and placed over it. Crowns can help to preserve the underlying tooth structure and prevent decay. They can easily last for years and even several decades with all of the necessary care and oral hygiene.
Why would a Dental Crown be required?
A customized crown, or cap, can be attached over any natural tooth within your mouth. They can be useful when it comes to preventing and putting a stop to sensitivity because of weak or vulnerable teeth. Some reasons you’d need a root canal include:
- A tooth has broken or cracked
- You had root canal therapy performed recently
- Your tooth has a very large area of decay
- Your tooth has one large filling or multiple fillings
What makes you a viable candidate for Dental Crowns?
We’ll carefully examine your teeth to determine if you might require a dental crown. Because the crown is made specifically for each individual patient, it will fit well and blend in seamlessly with the rest of your natural smile. If you have an existing crown, it may eventually need full replacement as it shows signs of both wear and breakage. The procedure is easy and quickly done in our office at your own convenience.
What occurs throughout the Dental Crown process?
The tooth will first be prepared to make room for the new crown. A color match is done to ensure that the crown blends in absolutely flawlessly with all of the rest of your teeth. We then have you come back in for a second appointment so that the permanent crown can be placed. We make any slight adjustments that are needed to ensure the crown is comfortable and you can bite down normally. You are then ready to leave the office with a brand new, beautiful smile.
If you think you may need or want a crown, call the practice right now and our staff can further assist in getting you in for an appointment.
