Fluoride Treatments

What are Fluoride Treatments?

Fluoride is helpful in protecting and strengthening your teeth. It is found in most dental products as well as public water supplies. Fluoride treatments can even be applied professionally to your teeth to further strengthen them. This treatment is easy, quick and takes just seconds in the office.

Why are Fluoride Treatments needed?

You may be looking for a way to further protect and strengthen your teeth. You may be prone to tooth decay and already have quite a few fillings. Likewise, you or your child may not have the best dietary or hygiene habits, making your teeth more susceptible to decay. Fluoride treatments are almost always recommended to pediatric patients, but they’re just as beneficial for adults.

Who is a candidate for Fluoride Treatments?

We can examine your teeth to determine if these special fluoride treatments are right for you. Most patients can and will benefit from these treatments. They can be done at any and all of your appointments or on an as-needed basis. The treatment is helpful in preventing tooth decay and the eventual need for additional dental work.

What happens during Fluoride Treatments?

We first begin by drying the teeth and applying a liquid fluoride. This liquid is brushed onto each of your teeth. You will be instructed to not eat or drink for about a half hour after the treatment has been applied. This ensures that the fluoride has more than enough time to work properly. You can come back in at any time for more treatments or we can apply them at each of your checkup visits. For children, we often recommend fluoride treatments as a way to protect their vulnerable teeth from decay and the need for more invasive procedures. Fluoride treatments are safe and effective at keeping your smile looking its best for many years to come without the need for complex dental procedures.

If you think you might need fluoride treatments, call our office today and we will be able to get you in for an appointment as soon as possible.
